Brett along side his father, Randy, and Wife, Shawna, have created this team based on three core principles;

Meet Our Team
Our team hires the most meticulous, efficient and knowledgeable sub-contractors, while overseeing, coordinating and supervising every phase of construction. Because we partner directly with our subcontractors and vendors, we can make certain that all aspects of the build meet our unrivaled standards and our dedication to detail. Furthermore, we pride ourselves on our scheduling and timeliness, ensuring you are in your brand-new home on schedule. We strive to exceed our clients expectations throughout every aspect of the project. Brett Smith
Brett Smith, serving as Blue Water Custom Homes’ President and Building Contractor, shared a vision with his father, best friend and local builder, Randy Smith.
Brett, native to Sarasota County, grew up working on job sites and learning the trades. From a young age, Brett had a vision of creating and developing a team that surpassed all expectations. Brett, having served as a Scout Sniper in the United States Marine Corps, harnessed his leadership skills and his dedication to detail.
Brett oversees day-to-day operations and leads the company’s vision, products and projects. Brett has a detailed and diversified approach to problem solving. His transparency and relationships with both clients and sub-contractors is unparalleled.
Brett’s vision of building a committed team, led to the inception of Blue Water Custom Homes in 2019.
Shawna Smith
Shawna Smith is both Co-Owner and Director of Operations for Blue Water Custom Homes. She was raised in Sarasota, Florida and is a graduate from University of Virginia.
As a key member of our team, she assumes a strategic role in the overall management of the company. Shawna and her husband, Brett, work hand-in-hand with each client to design their dream home and bring their vision to life. Shawna is also responsible for financial aspects of the company operations including; accounting, financial forecasting, strategic planning, and project budgeting.
Shawna and our team share aligned visions, goals and expectations for Blue Water Custom Homes, always evolving our business practices and enhancing our client and sub-contractor relations.
Wesley Ojeda
Wesley Ojeda, Blue Water Custom Homes’ Superintendant, is also a father, son, brother, firefighter, and a highly skilled carpenter.
Wes, as a first responder primarily, has always been passionate about construction. Between shifts at the fire station, Wes began working for the area’s best framing contractors where he quickly became the lead foreman. He thrived here for years up until he began his own successful framing business.
From Blue Water’s conception, Wes has played a pivotal role in its success. Being our sole framing contractor since Blue Water’s inception in 2018, Wes has been a big part of every project Blue Water has crafted.
He has now taken on a larger role here at Blue Water; Wes currently supervises, manages and coordinates all trades ensuring nothing is missed and our homes are built to the quality, standards and details expected of our homes.
We are thrilled to have Wes on our team! His dedication and commitment to the craft will help ensure we continue to create lifelong homes and lifelong relationships.
DJ Porvaznik
DJ Porvaznik serves as the Construction Manager for Blue Water Custom Homes, bringing over 16 years of experience in the construction industry. With a diverse background and an unwavering passion for building, DJ is a driving force behind the success of each project he oversees.
Growing up immersed in construction, DJ mentored alongside his family in the pool remodeling industry, where his passion for the trade took root. Over the years, he has built a robust skill set, working as a glass glazier, managing commercial and residential pool projects, and owning successful landscaping and remodeling businesses. His extensive expertise positions him as a dynamic leader and a resourceful problem-solver.
DJ earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration, blending his technical knowledge with strong administrative capabilities. In his role as Construction Manager, he leverages his hands-on experience and leadership to ensure that every Blue Water project meets the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.
Outside of work, DJ is a devoted husband and father to two daughters. He values family time and enjoys outdoor activities, including golf and fishing. DJ’s commitment, expertise, and leadership continue to elevate Blue Water Custom Homes as a premier builder in the industry.
